Canyon Country Outdoors isn’t a faceless tourism directory. It was created by a lifelong local explorer of this region, Kyran Keisling. He has hiked every trail, paddled every cove of Lake Powell, and watched the light beams dance through Antelope Canyon in every season.

Every recommendation on this site is a personal one. When we say “arrive at 10:00 AM for the best light beams,” it’s because we’ve been there at every hour and seen the difference firsthand.

How many days should I spend in the Page, Arizona area?

We recommend at least 2–3 full days to experience the highlights: Horseshoe Bend, Antelope Canyon, and Lake Powell. If you want to explore hidden gems, slot canyons, and off-the-beaten-path trails, plan for 4–5 days. Our curated itineraries can help you make the most of whatever time you have.

The iconic light beams in Upper Antelope Canyon are best seen from late March through early October, typically between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM. The summer months (June–August) offer the most dramatic shafts of light. We recommend booking a photographer’s tour for the best experience.

Sunset is the most popular and dramatic time — the warm light illuminates the canyon walls in deep oranges and reds. For photographers, we recommend arriving at least 90 minutes before sunset. Sunrise offers a quieter experience with beautiful soft light. Midday can be harsh but gives the best view of the turquoise river below.

Many of our recommended experiences are family-friendly, including the shorter Horseshoe Bend walk (1.5 miles round trip), calm-water kayaking on Lake Powell, and Lower Antelope Canyon tours. Antelope Canyon requires a guided tour with an authorized Navajo tour company — you cannot visit independently. Horseshoe Bend has a small entrance fee. Lake Powell access varies by activity. Many of the hidden gems and trails we recommend are accessible without permits, though some require Navajo Nation permissions. We detail requirements for every experience.
