Car Canyon Hike Description
This short hike is located about a third of a mile behind the Maverik Gas Station and Wal Mart in Page, Arizona on Highway 89. The abandoned 1950s-era cars were left behind after the construction of Glen Canyon Dam and the subsequent exodus of workers from the town of Page. The remaining locals, who stayed after the boom and bust, bulldozed the cars into Honey Draw to keep them out of sight.
As you explore this site, it’s easy to imagine the days when these cars were in use, the town was bustling, and a well-employed dam worker might have been patting the dashboard before heading to the drive-through. The walk to these classic cars offers a nostalgic glimpse into the past. For an extended adventure, continue along the edge of Honey Draw for another half mile to reach the rim of Glen Canyon, where you can enjoy views of the confluence of Honey Draw and the Colorado River.
