The Potato Hill Loop Trail
This moderate 1.75-mile loop hike on the north side of Page, Arizona is a segment of the Rim Trail and has stupendous views of Glen Canyon Dam, Lake Powell, Tower Butte and the Grand Staircase. For a shorter but equally rewarding experience, you can take a 1/4-mile uphill trail to Potato Hill Overlook, which provides an outstanding vantage point of some of the most scenic landscapes on the planet.
The loop trail is mostly level and well-groomed, though it is a natural path with loose rocks and slight undulations. There is no graded gravel or pavement, so expect some uneven footing.
For those seeking a bit more adventure, consider heading out to Harper’s Knob. This mesa peninsula extends to a striking sandstone outcropping that overlooks Glen Canyon Dam. Note that there is no designated trail to Harper’s Knob, so you’ll need to navigate by feel. Be prepared for rock scrambling, drop-offs, and slick rock surfaces. Exercise caution, as the Navajo Sandstone is soft and brittle.
