Biidi the Arch Mesa Description

Biidi the Arch, officially named on Google Maps and by the landowners, has been known informally by several names over the years, including Sand Cove Cavern, Shell Cave (or the Shell Gas Station Cave), Big Lake Sand Cave, and simply Sand Cove Mesa in older local references. The mesa that hosts the increasingly popular Biidi the Arch, located behind the Shell Gas Station (Chicken Jerky) Trading Post, offers several nearby features that are equally worthy of exploration. While many visitors gravitate toward the side of the mesa facing the highway and the town of Page, don’t miss the Spire of Dreams standing proudly on the southwestern corner. An elegant passageway carved around its base leads to breathtaking views of Lake Powell and the Grand Staircase National Monument.

In between Biidi the Arch and the Spire, you’ll find an intriguing old rusted stage called The Stage of Broken Dreams in a natural amphitheater. Walk up on it and imagine yourself performing there.

If you’re looking for a bit more mileage, the mesa can be circumnavigated in a circular fashion. There is no established trail, but travel is generally easy across sand and slickrock, with broad northern views along much of the route.

This accessible hike is conveniently located within the city limits of Page, AZ, making it the perfect outing for those short on time or for anyone looking to combine it with the Rim Trail or the Wind Cavern Loop Hike
