Sentinel Coves and Dome Hike Description
Enjoy a short 1.5-mile out-and-back hike starting from the Chains Parking area to the confluence of Wahweap Creek and the main channel of Lake Powell. The trail can be faint in spots, but using Wahweap Marina as a reference point will help guide you. This route provides access to private swimming spots, small beaches (depending on water levels), and excellent fishing opportunities. You’ll encounter beautifully polished river rocks along the way that spark curiosity about their origins.
For the more adventurous, consider tackling the Sentinel Dome Hike, which involves Class 4 scrambling. Be prepared for moves that require both hands and feet. The easiest route up the dome is from the eastern side, while the western side offers a more challenging climb and can be quite slick. Only advanced hikers should attempt these routes. The summit provides stunning 360-degree views of Glen Canyon Dam, Wahweap Bay, and Navajo Mountain.
